The Whitesides Family
John and Tiffaney came to Tanya with the desire to have her create a beautiful family portrait to enhance their lower-level den. This room is where they enjoy gathering as a family and entertaining guests around the bar. The room is filled with sports memorabilia dedicated to their beloved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They have spent much time over the years at the university, both in school and at sporting events and they envisioned a family portrait that would showcase their love for the school’s beautiful campus.
Tanya accompanied them to Chapel Hill on a lovely spring day when the azaleas were in full bloom. The school’s signature “Carolina Blue” was chosen as the color palette and it was evident by the expressions on their faces, that they were thrilled to be at UNC. Tanya selected expertly chosen locations and fulfilled their desire to capture some of their favorite campus destinations in an artistic way.
The family selected a large portrait of the entire family for over the bar, accompanied by a slightly smaller storyboard showcasing three of their favorite images. As a welcome to the room, they selected another family image that is displayed over the staircase. And on their coffee table in the upstairs den, they chose a beautiful box of prints in a matted collection.
Tanya believes in creating portraits in locations that are meaningful to a family or locations that connect with their collective personality. This ensures that the portraits remain dear to the family over time. In addition, the properly chosen location helps subjects look relaxed and natural. One of the most commonly heard comments when folks visit the studio is that everyone in the portraits looks so comfortable. The art of posing and the gift of warmness that Tanya has allows that to occur naturally. Locations, clothing and posing are all part of the unique experience that the Whitesides benefited from when they worked with Tanya on their portraits.
